Honey is one of the most beautiful horses to call Red Clay Ranch home. Her story is one of hardship, healing, and the quiet trust that can grow through years of patient, compassionate care.
A Difficult Beginning
Honey is a draft horse who was once used in the production of Premarin, a medication historically made using urine from pregnant mares. Many horses were affected by this practice before Honey eventually found her way into rescue.
Sadly, the person who had taken Honey in did not provide the care she needed. She came to Red Clay Ranch as a seizure case after experiencing neglect and starvation. When she arrived 13 years ago, she had every reason to be wary of people and did not trust human contact.
Trust Built Over Time
Healing for Honey has never been about rushing her. Through years of consistent care, kindness, and patience from Red Clay Ranch staff and volunteers, she has slowly learned that people can be safe.
Today, Honey allows her caregivers to groom her and show her affection. Her trust may be quiet, but it is deeply meaningful — a reflection of the dedication it takes to give a rescued horse the safety, dignity, and lifelong care she deserves.
